Music of the American Revolution

This presentation can be adapted to the audience's knowledge of the American Revolution.

The Music of the American Revolution presentation is a historical review of music leading up to and during the American Revolution. The first portion discusses fifes and drums along with the musicians who played them. How musicians were recruited, lived, dressed, and their role in 18th century armies are examined.

The second portion of the presentation focuses on specific songs of the period which are performed on the fife and drum. Topics covered include when the songs were composed, who composed them, and why they were composed. Prior to playing each song, it is interpreted in the context of the events of the period and its historical relevance. The presentation concludes with a question & answer session.
