Music played an important role in the American Revolution.
In the days prior to electronic communication, music served not only as a form of entertainment,
but communication as well.
Music was also employed to convey both patriotism and the grievances of the colonists.
There were many songs from the period leading up to and during the American Revolution
that were instrumental in promoting liberty and freedom in the colonies.
Listed below are several songs supporting the Patriotic Cause leading to
the creation of the United States.
Click on any song below for its background explaining the context and purpose of the song.
For some of the songs there is also an audio clip of the song played on the fife.
